BQ35100: Battery fueld gauge that supports LiSOC2 batteries

Part Number: BQ35100
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

We are using a LiSOC2 cell. It can challenging to measure % charge due to LiSOC2's very straight voltage discharge curve. In the BQ35100 IC datasheet it specifically mentions the ability to track the battery % charge for LiSOC2 cells. However, the BQ35100 is quite large at 5 x 4.4 mm, we would like to go to a smaller chip. In the BQStudio software there is the ability to choose different battery chemistries with one of them being LiSOC2 even for other chips than the BQ35100. I am wondering if this is an error or if other BQ fuel gauges support LiSOC2 cells. Thanks!

  • Hello Alex,

The bq35100 is a primary non-rechargeable battery gauge while most other gauges are for rechargeable batteries. bqStudio does not explicitly prevent programming chemistry IDs that have similar table data.
