BQ76942: Coulomb Counter

Hi,

I notice most of the TI BMS ICs are using delta sigma ADC for coulomb counter (current) and cell voltage measurement.

Can i know why the delta sigma ADC is chosen instead of SAR ADC for coulomb counter (current) and cell voltage measurement? What are the benefits of using Delta sigma ADC?

Hi Kim,

Although there are many differences between the SAR ADC and delta-sigma ADC, TI opts for the delta-sigma ADC when resolution and anti-aliasing need to be optimized. The delta-sigma offers higher resolution than the SAR ADC, and better anti-aliasing capabilities.
