A customer is looking for a protection IC with the following specifications
- Overvoltage: 4.3V
- Undervoltage
- Overcurrent during charge (OCC)
- Overcurrent during discharge (OCD)
- Short-circuit Discharge (SCD)
- Over-temperature (OT): NTC103AT-2 (for with bq25170J charger)
- FET drive: Integrated
I thought the bq298216 was close to the requirements for this, but the following thread says there are no PTCs on the market that meet the requirements for this IC.
Also, if I plan to use the bq25170J charger and make a battery pack with a built-in NTC103AT-2, what protection circuit do you recommend?

Hi Yoshinobu,
If this is for a single cell battery, then we currently do not have a device that meets all of these requirements. The 2982 can do everything except temperature protection.

Andria
Hi Andria-san,
Since the OVP is 4.3V specification, it would be bq298012/bq298216, but both of them require PTC since OT is Disable.
However, is it correct to assume that bq298012/bq298216 cannot detect OT in effect, since there does not seem to be a PTC on the market that works with this option?

Kagawa
Hi Kagawa,
There isn't a part number for the BQ2980 that enables the PTC feature. Additionally, a PTC would not work for the pull-up resistor value that the BQ2980 uses, so creating a new part number is not feasible.
Best,
Andria
