TPS65981EVM: Flash external SPI flash memory using the TPS65981 EVM

Part Number: TPS65981EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65981

Hi,

I have an external SPI flash memory, the same part number as the one mounted on the EVM. I want to flash the same using the EVM.

How can this be done? I am using the TPS65981 EVM & FTDI adapter.

Thanks.

  • Hi Aman,

Just to clarify, are you trying to program the same binary file that the EVM uses to the external SPI flash memory on another board?

    If yes:

There is not a good way to directly program the external EEPROM using the EVM and FTDI adapter unless you have the same schematic and layout that the EVM has.

Otherwise, you would need a 3rd party EEPROM flash programmer to flash the external SPI flash memory. Most flash programmers will allow you to hook up the SPI lines from the EEPROM to the programmer and flash the binary file taken from the EVM. You can get the binary file from the TPS6598x configuration tool when you load a project and save the binary.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris
