BQ40Z50-R1: Some application questions

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50

Hello Sir:

We have some application questions as below.

Please kindly provide some recommendations for us.

1. if our battery pack is for industrial flat panel, which software version TI recommend? R1 or R2?

2. if our battery pack wake up from shutdown mode and going to charge, does BQ40z50 has charging time out protection?

3. Would you please help to check our stat flowchart? especial we don't know how is the work flow when shutdown to wake up to normal or sleep?

Please help to provide your recommendations for us, we need your help.

Looking forward your feedback.

Thanks a lot.

  • Hello Statham,

We always recommend using the most up to date firmware, which would be the BQ40Z50-R4. This is not orderable, so it would need to be programmed during the production flow using either the BQ.FS file or SREC file.

The BQ40Z50 does provide overcharge protections, you should be able to see all the protections available and their specified entry and exit conditions in the Technical Reference Manual (TRM) for the firmware version you are using. Over charge protection is labelled as OC in the TRM.

From what I can tell the flow looks to be correct depending on what you program in your protections that are enabled and their thresholds.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller

  • Hi Wyatt:

About question 2, I mean if after charging for a long time and battery voltage didn't rise.

Does BQ40z50 has protections for this condition?

About question 3, customer update a new flowchart, please help to check it again.

I sent the flowchart by message for you.

    Looking forward your feedback.

    Thanks a lot.

  • Hello Statham,

We have charge timeout features, it is called CTO:

I don't know all their specific thresholds but in general yes the flow chart seems correct.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
