BQ40Z80EVM-020: BQ Studio not launching

Hello TI support. I have the BQ40Z80 EVM configured for a 6S pack. Between each string I have a 1kΩ resistor to act as a divider with the 6S and 7S shorted together. The “pack” is being powered off an AC wall power supply for 24V. Each string measured right around 4V. The Pres pin is tied to pack-. The jumpers are:

J16 pin22 LED

J17 pin 21 LED

J13 PDSG

J14 Pin 13 LED

J4 No jumper

J9 No jumper

J15 Pin 20 LED

J3 No jumper

J5 Pin 17 PRES

J7 Pin 12 ADC/GPIO

J8 No jumper

J10 CB7EN

J6 No jumper

J18 EV2400 SMBD1

J22 EV2400SMBC1

J11 No Jumper

When I apply power to the cell input, I press and hold the wake button. I can measure the pack voltage on the output while pressed to confirm that the output voltage is waking up the system. With the button held I start up BQStudio 1.3.101 but it does not recognize the device. Any ideas what needs to change in order for BQStudio to start up correctly?

Hello,

Please see below my set up and compare.

The only difference is that I am using external EV2400, but if you are using on-board EV2400, just ensure J18 is connected to 1 and 2. J20 is connected to 2 and 3.

Hi Jose,

I matched my jumpers up with yours with the two exceptions for the internal verse external EV2400. Attached is the photo of the board. On the underside of the board between the pins are my 1kΩ Resistor as well as the short on 6S to 7S with a wire. I am still not able to launch BQSTUDIO successfully.

Hello Eric,

It is auto detecting 4800_0_04, but it looks like you do not have the bqz file in the config file.

Please navigate to "C:\ti\BatteryManagementStudio\config" and paste the below bqz file. Re-Launch bqStudio and it should auto detect now.

Getting closer the 4800_0_04 error is gone but it does not detect the device still.

Please make sure you hold the wake button while launching bqStudio.

Hi Jose,

I am holding the wake button and confirming with a DMM that voltage is on the pack pin before launching and during launching BQ Studio.

Voltage measurement on output while wake button is being held is 24.3V. I also just tried a coworkers computer for BQStudio and it was able to open and launch successfully.

I will uninstall and reinstall the software.
