TPS62150: VOS pin is open

Part Number: TPS62150

Hi,

Let me ask you a few questions.
1. What happens to the output voltage if something causes the VOS pin to open?
2. At that time, is there an internal circuit to limit the output voltage?

Best Regards,

Nishie

  • Hi Nishie,

    1. This depends on if the FB pin is still connected to the resistor divider measuring Vout. If FB pin is still connected with VOS open then the device should still regulate, however there would likely be stability issues as part of the control loop information is missing.

    2. The internal clamp for the output voltage only happens if VOS is connected and FB pin is open (clamps to about 7.4V per the datasheet).

    Thanks,

    Joseph

  • Hi Joseph-san,

    Thank you for your reply.

We have received additional questions from customer and would appreciate it if you could respond.

Regarding No. 2, I understood that when the VOS pin is connected and the FB pin is open, it is clamped to 7.4 V.

    1. What happens to the output voltage when the VOS pin is open?
    2. Is the output voltage value equal to or less than the input voltage?

    Best Regards,

    Nishie

  • Hi Nishie,

    For adjustable Vout device:

When the VOS pin is open, the device will still regulate using the FB resistors, however there will be instability from having a floating node and noise will likely get injected into the control.

    For fixed Vout device:

The output voltage will rise above target and potentially exceed the max Vout rating when VOS is open.

    Thanks,

    Joseph
