BQ20Z45-R1 Learning Cycle

Hello,

TI has published an interesting app report, "Achieving The Successful Learning Cycle" by Charles Herder and Ming Yu.

I have the following questions about that article.

1. What is the best procedure that TI recommend at the start of a "Learning Cycle"? For instance, discharge the battery first; reset DF; Enable IT; and then start the cycle, etc. Correct?

2.  To diagnose a failed learning cycle, the above article recommends to start the cycle by setting EVSW to log the Data RAM. What parameters shall be data logged? There are many parameters in DF that are not necessary for the above procedure. Correct?

3. I have attempted the learning cycle twice, but have failed  both times. The "UPDATE_STATUS reads 04!  However, QEN and VOK were both set before starting the learning cycles.  FYI, I have another EVM board and have worked.

In the above case, none of the parameters on PF are set to show any problem with DF setting.  What is the best way of monitoring the learning progress during this "Learning Cycle" ?

4. Even before starting the cycle, UPDATE_STATUS reads 04. Why is that? Shall I do a tw0-word command reset?

Thank you,

Raymond Koosha

  • 1. The best procedure to follow for notebook devices (suchs as the z45-R1) is to follow the instructions in section 1.2 in the slua334b document (attached). Follow the "When no close Qmax value is known".

    2. Section 2 of the attached slua474 document explains how to set up logging to diagnose a learning cycle issue. Make sure to download the correct EVSW from the z45-R1 product folder on power.ti.com.

    3. Update Status of 04 indicates that Impedance Track has been enabled but you have not had a Qmax or Ra update, which means learning has not been successful yet. Follow the instructions in step 2 to get log and GG files and we can take a look to see what went wrong.

    4. This is normal. It just indicates that the 0021 command to enable Impedance Track has been sent.
