Qi versus non-Qi

As already mentioned in another topic we are distributor for GETPOWERPAD in the EU and they recently announced to integrate the Qi technology in their wireless chargers, but to us the technological advantage of QI is not clear. Could someone clearly explain the advantage so that we can communicate this to our resellers.

Thanks in advance!

  • The advantage of using the Qi standard is to allow interoperability between many devices with a single charging pad, independent of the equipment manufacturer.  This is a significant benefit to the end-user since he / she does not have to have unique charging pads for each handheld device that needs to be recharged.

The Qi standard from the Wireless Power Consortium represents an efficient, compatible design that is endorsed by numerous companies in the industry and allows all participating members products to work with each other.  Some products have already been announced, and more major OEMs will be introducing Qi-compliant devices in the near future.  As the standard becomes more widespread, there will be added convenience to the end-user because the greater availability of compliant charging pads will simplify the recharging of any Qi-compliant handheld device.
