TPS4H160-Q1: question about Demagnetization Capability

Hi Expert,

I have a confusion about Demagnetization Capability curve.

1. How does below plot come from? It varies device by device. Do we test and draw it, or get it by simulation?

2. I don't really understand why Demagnetization energy varied with inductor values. I assume all the Ed is dissipated on Rdson. Then the Demagnetization energy should be quite steady instead of varying with inductor so much. How do we get the max load current and max Demagnetization energy value? Thanks.

Hi Elec,

1. We tested this and get average values across several devices.

2. The way to think about this is: the clamp voltage across the FET is the same. With larger current, the power dissipation (energy per unit time) will be larger, and thus less total energy it can be dissipated.

Hi Elec,

By actually blowing up the device. We keep increase the duration for the current ramping period, till a point the device can't be turned on properly (dead at that point).
