TPS629203: What does dynamic mode change mean?

Part Number: TPS629203

Dear experts, as shown in the attached Table 8-1, what does dynamic mode change mean? If the current of my system during sleep is 20uA, and the current during operation is 20mA, considering the efficiency at light load, the 27.4K ohm setting of MODE/S-CONF pin is the best way? But at this time, dynamic mode change is not active, what does it mean? Best regards.

  • Hi Jason,

Dynamic mode change simply means that the device is able to change modes while operating.

With Dynamic mode inactive, once the device is powered up it will hold the same mode until the device is powered down and has the MODE/S-CONF resistor changed.

    Thanks,

    Joseph

  • Dear joseph, if dynamic mode change active during operating, host controller can use GPIO to change the Mode (Auto or Forced PWM)?  If I set 27.4K ohm setting on  MODE/S-CONF pin, the TPS629203 can automatically adjust Auto PFM or PWM mode with AEE according to the light or heavy load? And FSW(MHz) can automatically adjust switching frequency according to the light or heavy load? Best regards.

  • Hi Jason,

Yes, if you are using dynamic mode change you can change between FPWM and APFM/PWM mode using GPIO.

Also note that in APFM/PWM mode, it will automatically transition between PWM and PFM based on inductor current. Once inductor current hits zero the device will seamlessly transition to PFM. In addiiton, with AEE mode the device will adjust switching frequency based on Vin and Vout to ensure high efficiency is maintained.

    Thanks,

    Joseph

  • Dear joseph, thanks for your help. Best regards.
