Dear team,

One of our customers is using 12V, 1000W design in industrial router project and consider using our hot-swap controller. The normal working situation of the MOSFET will have an 85A current going through and they want to use two MOSFET work in parallel.

Does TPS24713 can support driving two MOSFETs working in parallel? What is the current driving capability of TPS24713?

By the way, do we have products that can support 2 pins to drive 2 MOSFET?

1. The customer is considering using 2 MSOFETs to run the total 85A current. I found that the TPS25985 can be worked in parallel to increase the total power.

Could the customer use two e-fuse to control two MOSFETs separately?

2. The customer also wants to have power limit function, but TPS25985 doesn't have this function. Is there any ohter part with this function recommended?

3. By the way, the customer wants to use hot-swap controller to limit the power and inrush current when plug-in, can e-fuse do the same job like hot-swap controller?

Hi Xenon,

TPS25985 eFuse integrates the MOSFET. It doesn't require any external MOSFET. It is simply necessary to connect two (2) TPS25985 eFuses in parallel for this 85 A design. Please refer to the EVM schematic presented in TPS25985 evaluation module for eFuse User's Guide (Rev. A).

A power limit is used in Hot Swap controllers to prevent damage to external MOSFETs caused by overheating due to violation of MOSFET SOA. However, the TPS25985 eFuse has an inbuilt thermal protection scheme, which monitors its die temperature continuously and shuts down when it exceeds the thermal shutdown threshold (TJ Rising) of 150 C. Please note that the Hot Swap controllers don't monitor the junction temperature of the MOSFETs directly and there is no thermal shutdown mechanism. Hence, the integrated TPS25985 eFuse is a much more robust solution than a Hot Swap with external MOSFETs.

The TPS25985 eFuse can limit the inrush current during hot plug-in. Please refer to the section "8.3.4.1 Slew rate (dVdt) and Inrush Current Control" in TPS25985x 4.5 V – 16 V, 0.59-mΩ, 80-A Stackable eFuse with Accurate and Fast Current Monitor datasheet (Rev. A) (ti.com).
