BQ78350-R1A: BMS Short circuit

I have a doubt regarding on short circuit testing in BMS. My team create BMS design as per the documents. In this we are using the BQ78350 for Gauge and 769X0 for AFE. In this design while short circuit happens the controller will going to the hanging state, means there is no communication, no LED indications and moreover both charge and discharge was not happening. We are checking with lot of combination battery packs.

Please suggest some points for this issue.

Hi,

A short circuit protection will open both the charge and discharge protection FETs. Maybe the communication is stopped because of the ground connection as described in the slides linked below? Short circuit events can also cause damage to the electronics if there is are large transient voltages due to inductance. Are you able to see if there is communication between the BQ78350 and the BQ769x0 AFE on the I2C lines?

Yes, there is no communication between BQ78350 and the BQ769x0 AFE and to the CONTROLLER I2C Lines. But there is no electronic component damage.

Can you check the voltage of the REGOUT pin voltage of the BQ769x0 AFE?

When you say there is no electronic component damage, are you sure the BQ769x0 is not damaged? Have you tried to replace either IC in one of these packs?
