TPS54116-Q1: Input-Output Short

Dear Support,

We have observed that when more voltage beyond absolute maximum of 7V is given to TPS54116-Q1 IC. Input is getting shorted to output SW pins and it is damaging the output power connected circuits. We wanted to have protection in such a way that any over voltage should only damage IC but it should not short the input voltage to output. Let us know the solution.

    Hello Erfan,

    A simple protection solution is to use a comparator plus a switch in series at the input side. The protection circuit disconnects VIN from power when the voltage is higher than the set threshold. There is an integrated circuit for protection. Please check with PSIL group.
