BQ28Z610: Discharge current level boost

Part Number: BQ28Z610

Hi,

I attached the schematic. In the discharge mode,  we can not get above 3.5A current with BMS, but  we can get 8A current output from the battery cell without BMS. How can we increase the discharge current output to 8A with BMS? Could you help us?

Thank you.

  • Hello Gurcan,

The short circuit protection is probably being activated. This can be set in data  memory. You should also look at the FET capabilities before increasing the limits

  • Hello Shirish,

We removed the OCP and SCP features of the BMS. Nevertheless, we can not get above 3.5A current with BMS again. How can we increase the protection limit? Could you send the sample documentation?

  • Hello Gurcan,

Can you elaborate more on "we removed OCP and SCP features of the BMS"? Can you explain what was done? I am assuming OCP stands for Overcurrent Protection and SCP - source current protection? Can you please explain?

The bq28z610 comes with integrated protection for several scenarios. In your case, what makes more sense is to increase the OCD: Threshold. OCD-Overcurrent in Discharge Protection. By default is set to 6000 mA.

Can you share your gg file? Also, can you share your layout?

    Regards,
    Jose Couso

  • Hello Jose, we turned off all protections as shown in below figure. OCP stands for over current protection. SCP stands for short circuit protection. Although it is set to 6000mA by default, we cannot get output over 3.5A.

I attached the layout picture of the project and gg file.
