BQ76952: Using EV2300 and enabling the I2C VOUT pin

Part Number: BQ76952
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO, , EV2400

Hello

I respect that EV2300 is obsolete but I have one and the release notes for BQStudio reference EV2300 changes so I'd like to try to use it with BQ76592.

If I confirm that it now works (for I2C), I can give an update to Matt Sunna feedback here:

https://e2e.ti.com/support/power-management-group/power-management/f/power-management-forum/1034520/bq76952-does-bq76952-can-communicate-with-ev2300/3824652

My question is how I enable the VOUT on the I2C port on EV2300 to provide 5V. I want to use it as the I2C bus pull-up voltage.

VOUT is switched by Q2 which is enabled when the EV2300 MCU RA4 pin is driven low. There is no additional jumper so some soft command is necessary.

I cannot see any configuration in BQStudio so I may have to adjust it "independently" with some USB commanding.

Thank you
Harry

  • Hi Harry,

I do not recommend using the EV2300 with the BQ76952. There were multiple updates made to the EV2400 firmware to ensure compatibility with the BQ76952 family, so there may be some non-obvious issues when using the EV2300.

It is true that VOUT on either the EV2300 or EV2400 could be software controlled, but that ability is not currently enabled in the firmware for either device, so there is no command I can share for you to control this unfortunately.

    Best regards,

    Matt

  • Fair call Matt

Best not to go down that rabbit hole then :-)

Thank you. I will connect I2C from the EV2400 circuit on the EVM on to our prototype as other posts have described and set up a 5V source for the pullups.

    Best wishes
    Harry
