TPS22924C: Operating Temperature

Hello,

From the datasheet, the max operating ambient temperature specified in it is 85C. Is the junction temperature a limiting factor for the usage of this part or it is the current and Tamb only? If so, what is the max Tj is for this part? There is a table with thermal impedances for the part, but no number for Tjmax.

Hi Kyle,

As you can see we do not have max Tj specified for this part. Instead, our newer device TPS22925 is a drop-in replacement with a lower Ron for better thermal performance and thermal shutdown to make sure the device gets disabled when the IC heats up too much.

Is this newer device something your customer would be interested in?

Hello Elizabeth,

Thank you for your response! Is the TPS22925 very similar in technology to the TPS22924C, with the exception of Ron? With limited time in the design cycle, it may be hard to get this new part in. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated if you have insight on the temperature spec.

Hi Kyle,

With regard to differences, the TPS22925 device has a wider input voltage range, lower Ron, higher Ion, and reverse current blocking when disabled compared to the TPS22924. The TPS22925C also has a similar rise time to the TPS22924C. The maximum thermal junction temperature of the TPS22925 is 125C.

Based on an e2e answered four years ago, my counterpart discovered from design the max Tj for TPS22924C is 100C.

I expect this to be correct, however, since this was four years ago, allow me to go ahead and double check with design.
