TPS54331: TPS54331 OC Issue

Dear Team,

Customer use TPS54331DR in their Thermal Printer,Vin 12V,Vout 8.5V.

When they do all balck print test (Load current is 5-6A),the total amount is 80PCS,then found the output voltage of device is drop 5.5V(about 4PCS) and other output voltage is 7V(76PCS).7V can Make the print module work and 5.5V can not make the print moudle work.

I think the TPS54331DR is over current protect and 5.5V/7V is the difference of different device caused.Pls help to confirm.

BTW,pls kindly find the attach file for OS test data and schematic.

Hi Ning

As we talked offline. Here is my comment: Yes, you are right. The voltage drop is caused by the OC protection of the device. The min limit of the OC value is 3.8V and when customer's loading is higher than 3A, the peak inductor value will reach 3.8A and trig the OC protection. If customer would like to use the device with >3A and <=5A loading, TPS54531 is recommended.
