BQ25883: Can the BQ25883 charge the battery while powering the SYS device?

Hello,

Can the BQ25883 charger IC (2-Cell, 2-A Boost-Mode Battery Charger With Power Path, USB On-The-Go Boost (OTG) For USB Input) charge the battery AND power the device on the SYS pin at the same time? I haven't found anything on the datasheet that says that.

Hi Linhong,

I saw that too. But it seens to me that what it says is that the BQ25883 can provide power to the device on SYS by draining from the battery, from the VBUS (USB), or from both at the same time (USB+battery).

Yes, charge the battery and power the SYS at the same time. But that piece of text from the datasheet you posted above sounds like:

- The BQ25883 can power the SYS by draining from the battery AND from the USB at the same time, or just from either one of them.

But it doesn't sound like its saying:

- The BQ25883 can charge the battery AND power the SYS at the same time.

What do you think?

Hi Ed,

Next paragraph of datasheet actually talks about how BQ25883 regulates SYS voltage, to power the system (SYS), and in the mean time charge the battery, under different battery voltage conditions. Please read through this whole section 8.3.6
