Sure -

We are looking to understand how long a device can handle an overload (such as operating in current limit) before the overtemperature protection kicks in. This is similar to the SOA curves for MOSFETs / NEXFETs. For instance - If we know that, say 5W is being dissipated for 2msec and the case starts at 85C, will the junction exceed the 140C trip point? Transient thermal impedance curves help to assess this.
