USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM: USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM

Part Number: USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM

Hi,

I ordered USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM. I use USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM User's Guide step by step to programing the EVM.

My first question is about the source.bin file. How can I find the source.bin file?

İs source.bin file the picture that shows below?

When I trying flash the program to the source board I saw this failure message.

After that, I try the this picture step.

But I see the view thats the shows below picture. Why source board leds D5-D8 don't powered and board don't do anything?

Is PD IC onto the source board has any problem?? I read USB-C-PD-DUO-EVM User's Guide twice and I try step by step every step.

Thanks.

  • Hi Sahin,

Thanks for reaching out on E2E!

Instead of loading a project, in the GUI create a new project and flash with those default configurations when programing the source and the sink board.

For source board in the photo you shared above with the LEDs not being turned on, please ensure that you are powering the source board via the barrel jack.

Let me know if you are able to flash it!

    Thank you,

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

    Thanks for your answer,

I created new project in the GUI and when I select SRC board via J202 header, I chose the TPS65987DDH device then chose TIDA-0500012 Source Board and in the GUI I used the "flash from current project" in the Binary Menu and select the FTDI for USB to SPI Adapter. Then I flash firmware to flash the it flash firmware. You can use it picture that shows below.

I do that for Sink Board.

    After that I connect source and sink board via TYPE-C cable. Yes I'm sure the source board powered via barrel jacket. You can see it via picture;

Could the problem be Source board hardware ? How can I sure about that

    Thanks.

  • Hi Sahin,

Understood apologies as I didn't realize that you are hooked up to a bench supply.

Do you have another EVM that you can flash correctly?

Can you test the following registers that can be found under the adapters settings tab and let me know of the result?

If the flash verification fails, that means that the new configuration was not written correctly and sometimes wont load properly on the EVM.

    Thank you,

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

    I don't have unfortunately.

I've tested it. You can see on the picture.

    Thank you

    Şahin

  • Hi Sahin,

Ok thanks for that image. This way I know that the PD controller is working properly since it is in APP mode.

    Do you have an aardvark?

You might be able to try and flash the device using an aardvark with the exposed pins.

    Thank you,

    Kevin

  • I have just EV2400 Interface Module;

    https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu446d/sluu446d.pdf

    Can I use it?

BTW Why couldn't I programming via FTDI? whats the problem?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Sahin,

    Sorry about this inconvenience!

I have not encountered this error before and have not been able to replicate this.

Let me follow up with the team to see if anyone has been able to replicate this or has seen this in the past.

I know that you are using a bench supply, but do you have a barrel jack power supply that you can use instead?

Also can you please take a picture so of where you have soldered in the power supply?

Looking forward to hearing back and resolving this for you.

    Thank you,

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

Thank you for your helping. I'm waiting for your reply.

I don't have barrel jack power supply, You can see that I soldered the power supply on the picture below.

    Thank you,

  • Hi Sahin,

    Thanks for the photo!

I’ll take a look at the schematic and see if this could be causing issues.

    Thank you,

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

Did u find anything about issue?  I have TPS6598D IC and I ordered the Flash Ic in the schematic. I think I'll resoldering the TPS6598D IC and change it with new IC. Maybe the problem was about IC?

    Can u suggest anything ??

    Thank you

    Şahin

  • Hi Sahin,

Apologies as I haven't had a chance to update you.

We recommend using the barrel jack connecter with the EVM, so I believe that it might have to do with the bench supply possibly? (Maybe an over voltage event occurred?)

Please update me and let me know if changing the IC resolves the issue.

When you attempt this again, please let me know if you are able to use a barrel jack power connector.

    Thank you,

    Kevin
