BQ40Z80: Cell Balance Time

Part Number: BQ40Z80

Hi TI,
We use a high capacity 4s1p battery (50Ah), and therefore we use a divider of 10. We calculated the cell balancing time in accordance with TRM, but we had a question - is it necessary to use a divider for this cell balancing time as well? If my value turned out to be 60, should I specify it to be 6?
Thank you for your prompt reply

  • Hello Dmitry,

If you scaled the current so that when 1A is applied the gauge reads 100mA then you will need to scale any values of mA or mAh to correspond with your scaling factor. You may need to increase to 600 instead of 6 since this is the time to balance 1 mAh with a fixed resistance. If the gauge thinks each cell is 5000mAh when it's actually 50000mAh then it will need more time per 1 mAh to balance.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
