Hello Team,

I'm posting on behalf of my customer:

Looking for design support to create a Lithium charger (10 cell) from a 12V battery input. We expect input voltage to be 10-15V and output voltage to be 42V @ 2A max. Please provide app notes and other resources to design this boost converter. In particular, how to choose the inductor spec and shunt resistor values.

Hi Renan,

The TI charger team currently does not have a single IC solution for this design. I recommend checking back in 2Q2023 for such a solution. In the meantime, please search the TI reference designs for a multi chip solution at https://www.ti.com/reference-designs/index.html.

Hello Jeff,

Thank you for this response. However, my customer is not looking for a charger IC. They are mainly looking for it is a DC-DC that will do the specs they listed. Any suggestion we can offer?

Hi Renan,

I am not familiar with the boost IC portfolio. I can move your post to that product line but they will likely be concerned about how to regulate constant charge current as the boost converters only regulate the output voltage.

Hi,

I would go for a synchronous controller like the LM5122. You might also check out the async LM5155 and LM5156 but here you might reach the border of acceptable loss or efficiency.
