TPS54325 - SS Soft Start floating

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54325

We are using the TPS54325 and would like to know if we could remove the capacitor at the SS – Soft Start pin to get the fastest ramp up time of the output. If this is not recommended then what is the minimum value capacitor that we can use to get the fastest ramp up time of the output? What are the side effects of removing the capacitor? Would this disable Soft Start? What are the issues with disabling soft start?

  • I have not tried to find the fastest possible start up.  In general, the main limitation is charge current to the output capacitors.  The minimum ss time is: tmin = Cout *Vout / I current limit - I load.  Very fast or uncontrolled start up can also have unintended consequences such as output over shoot.  Additionally, some of the fault detection is timed relative to the slow start time.  Reducing it to "zero" may cause latching fault conditions to occur.  What type of slow start time are you looking for?
