UCC28070A: power consumption on IC

Part Number: UCC28070A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28070

Hello Support team,

Customer would like to calculate power consumption on UCC28070A, could you provide how to calculate or application note?

And they found that supply current I_VCC has tree test setup, disabled, enabled, UVLO. Does this means,

UVLO: under UVLO,

disabled: UVLO break but not switching

enabled: UVLO break and switching

Is their understanding correct?

Thanks,

Koji Ikeda

  • Hi Ikeda-San,

Thank you for the query on UCC28070.

We do not have an app note showing this, but the IC can take current from 15-20mA for applied bias voltage.

You are correct, the I_VCC varies depending on the operation and has different values in UVLO state, Enabled state (Out of UVLO and switching - normal operation) and disabled (out of UVLO but not switching - protection mode).

    Harish

  • Harish-san,

    Thank you for your support.

    >We do not have an app note showing this, but the IC can take current from 15-20mA for applied bias voltage.

I_VCC spec on datasheet is max 12mA, do you think any other power consumption?

Is the power consumption VCC X I_VCC only? In this customer case, they plan to use external gate driver, I think that they don't need to care power consumption of gate driver on UCC28070.

    Thanks,

    Koji Ikeda

  • Hi Ikeda-San,

The gate drive loss will be limited to Vg*Qg*fsw (approx.) and as you told it will be on the external driver (buffer) and should not be a concern from the IC perspective.

    Thank you

    Regards,

    Harish
