Hello,

I am wondering if I can use this part as a DC circuit breaker?

An SiC Mosfet and current shunt resistor will be in series with a DUT and the breaker will always be on unless a fault is detected on the OC pin.

Is this a good use for this IC? Any problems you can foresee?

    Hi Steve,

    Thanks for your interest in using UCC21710 device for your application.

    Yes, UCC21710 can be used for Circuit breaker application. However it will be good to understand, what are the key critical specifications for your system in terms of "time to open" the circuit and ensure that the ICC21710's spec is within your required system spec limit.

    Also there will be losses on the FET [as it will be always on] as well on the shunt resistor. There are FETs with sense pin - which can minimize the losses.
