When is FCC or RC updated ?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL114

Hi,

we are trying to come to grips with how the bq78pl114 really updates its FCC and RC. Jim, can you please fill in the following table or if this is a too simple conecpt, please try to explain in simple words, how the 114 operates.

Operating mode FCC update RC update
Normal yes yes
Idle ? yes
Sleep ? ?
EUV no no

Thanks !

Cheers, Heye

  • Hi Heye,

The FCC and RC Update senerios are discussed in the TRM on Page 78 (http://focus.ti.com/lit/ug/sluu481/sluu481.pdf)

"An update to FCC and RemCap is performed whenever the following happens:

    • There is a change to the Charge or Discharge state,

    • If there is a change of Q

MAX during Idle and at grid points during discharge. Grid points refers to the fifteen points that make up the Impedance vs. SOC table stored in the Chemistry File.

    • Every 10th Q

REM update in the Relaxation Period of the Idle State.

    Filling in your Table:

Operating mode FCC update RC update
    Normal yes yes
    Idle yes yes
Sleep (Assuming Ship Mode) no no
    EUV no no

    Regards,

    Ben

  • Hi Ben,

sorry, my mistake : "Sleep" should have read "Standby". I am talking here about the operating mode when the pack is removed from the system, or when the SM-Bus is not pulled high anymore.

So are there FCC and RC updates during SM-Bus low periods ?

    Regards, Heye

  • Hi Heye,

FCC and RC updates during SM-Bus low periods will be extremely infrequent.

The FCC and RC updates reliably occur during  the condistions outlined in the TRM (Page 78):

An update to FCC and RemCap is performed whenever the following happens:
    • There is a change to the Charge or Discharge state,
    • If there is a change of QMAX during Idle and at grid points during discharge. Grid points refers to the
fifteen points that make up the Impedance vs. SOC table stored in the Chemistry File.
    • Every 10th QREM update in the Relaxation Period of the Idle State.

    Regards,

    Ben
