BQ27542-G1: BQ27542-G1

Part Number: BQ27542-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQSTUDIO

Hello TI Engineer,

We are using BQ27542-G1 fuel gauge part in our design. With your support team we could able to extract Golden Image files from the gauge.

We got three golden image files from BqStudio software i.e. two FS files (BqFS and DfFS)  and third one is SREC file.

Since we are using host controller to program and control fuel gauge IC, we are not sure which one of the above file to use for further development (BqFS or DFFS).

Kindly suggest appropriate file to use from above for further development.

Thanks in advance for the support.

  • Hello Namdeo,

The DFFS file is used when the original device has the same firmware version. If the firmware version of the device is different from the one that was used for DFFS generation, then use any of the other 2 formats.

  • Hi Shirish,

Thanks for your feedback. However I have below followup questions ragarding same.

Will the firmware revision changes with production lots? e.g. If I purchase 1000 qty of chips today then it may have firmware revision 1.0 and if I purchase 1000 qty of chips after 6 months or any time later then can these new lot of chips have firmware revision different from 1.0? Or there will be change in part no. of chip if firmware revision is changed?

  • Hello Namdeo,

Normally the chip will have a different orderable part number if the firmware revision is changed. So you can expect that the same part number will have the same firmware. There are always exceptions, so it may be a good idea to read the firmware version of 1 chip in the lot.

  • Thank you Shirish for your feedback.

We have new query regarding same device. We could able to program the fuel gauge device BQ27542-G1 using host controller. But it is not giviing us proper results even after using correct ChemID. It gives us zero remaining capacity however there is more capacity remaining in battery and running the load for 2 hours.

Second question is how fuel guage knows that we have replaced old battery and used new battery of similar capacity to determine charge parametors?

  • Hello Namdeo,

Have you sent the IT enable command after programming the DFFS file? The gauge is configured for a specific battery. You should not replace cells.

  • Hi Shirish,

    Thanks for the reply.

Yes, I have sent IT enable command to fuel gauge chip. I don't see difference in reading.

Shall we reconfigure the chip? Do we have to erase flash memory of fuel gauge chip before configuring it again?

  • Hello Namdeo,

The DFFS file has all the commands required for reprogramming. Can you connect this battery to bqStudio and read out another DFFS file right after programming it from the host? This will be a good sanity check for host programming.
