TPS65988DJ: Can't start TBT chip with TPS65988DJ

Part Number: TPS65988DJ

Hi sir,

My customer is starting a tapex creek TBT3 dongle project and modify it to bus power application. We can load code into 988 and finish alt mode communication. And we can see first IRQ clear process (didn't get Logic analyzer's I2C yet). But the process doesn't go continually and system can't monitor TBT equipment now. We will check I2C communication later, and would you please helping to check any issue our pjt file? Thanks for your kindly help.

Best regards,

Gary Teng

  • Hi Gary,

What do you mean by modify it to bus power application?

Which version of the GUI are they using and what is the version of the firmware base image?

Did they correctly set up the project within the GUI? Could you ask them what settings they chose when creating the new project, those will make it easier to check the pjt file.

Can you provide PD logs for the working and failing cases?

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

GUI version is 6.3.4 and fw version is f807.12.07. PD function looks good because cc communication looks ok and stop at enter mode command. IRQ# has first pull down and go back to high, but no next activity(don't see another IRQ# sent) and TBT device doesn't link with laptop. Is there anything we have to take care at PD side, or customer need to debug their TBT device function?

    Regards,

    Gary

  • Hi Gary,

Can you provide a PD log of the device entering TBT mode so we can double check.

After that, we might need to look at the I2C information for more information.

Just wanted to know, but what does this comment mean?

modify it to bus power application

Usually we recommend that customers follow the reference designs so we can not guarantee everything works the same if there are major modifications to the reference design.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Chris

  • Hi Chris,

TBT function is ok after customer modify VIN3V3 source. And I think maybe that's not PD FW issue current. I'll close the case and maybe need your help at another post. Thank you very much.

    Regards,

    Gary

  • Sound good!

    Thanks,

    Chris
