BQ34Z100EVM: Current and capacity scaling

Part Number: BQ34Z100EVM

Hi!

I'm new using this BQ and I'm doing a top of the stack gauge, I'm using a 12.8v 100 Ah LiFePo4 Battery.

I am traing to scaled using x4 factor in the current and the capacity.

I read in this article www.ti.com/.../slua760.pdf that I have scale all current an capacity parameters in the data flash configuration.

My question is if I have to scale all the parameters with mA, mAh, mWh, cWh in the configuration and in the gas gauging or just the parameters in configurations?

Best regards.

  • Hello Alan,

Can you list the parameters that you are referring to?

  • Hi Shirish,

    Sure, here are two screenshots:

In this two sections which parameters do I have to scale? All the parameters with mA, mAh, mWh, cWh like Dsg Current Thereshold, Design Capacity, etc.

    Thanks

  • Hi, Alan

To scale the current reading down by x4, you need to calibrate the real 4A current to 1A in the first place, this will leads to a 4Ah capacity battery to be reported as a 1Ah capacity battery, the all current related parameters like mAh, mA, mWh and cWh should be scaled down by 4, i.3., multiplied by 1/4, when host read the data from the gauge, all current related register data shall be multiplied by 4

  • Hi Steven,

    1. So I need to calibrate the current in -1000 in the calibration window. Like in this screenshot:

    2. The data from the gauge that the host read is this one? (screenshot attached) And all the parameters like mAh, mA, mWh and cWh needs to me multiplied by 1/4 correct?

    3. Also all current related register data shall be multiplied by 4, are for example this ones that are in the screenshot?

Thanks for your help, this is something new for me and still a bit confusing for me, but thanks for your help!

  • Hi, Alan

1: When input -1000 for current calibration, the real current shall be -4000mA

2: The unit of Qmax max delta should be %, so no need to change on this parameter

3: For Min Taper Capacity, this parameter should be changed, but the unit is 1/256mAh,
