BQ40Z50-R2: bqStudio, if the cell datasheet specifies cutoff at 2.5V, what should be used in CUV Threshold, Delay and Recovery fiels?

Part Number: BQ40Z50-R2

I am a novice in this field and have a question on the CUV parameters.

I am trying to protgram a BMS with the bq40Z50R3; it's a 2S1P pack, and the datasheet speficies the discharge cut off at 2.5V. What should I used for CUV threshold, Delay and Recovery parameters?

For Threshold, should I use something higher than 2500mV since there is a delay of 3.5seconds.

Thanks for your help.

  • Hello Tai,

This is really dependent on your application and what you expected your voltages to be and the protections you want, it's difficult for us to give suggestions for the safety settings since they are different for each application.

If the cell datasheet specifies the minimum voltage for the cell at 2500mV then you could set the CUV at 2500mV or slightly above, depending on how much reserve capacity you want the system to be functioning. If the protection occurs at 2500mV and then the device sits for sometime it will quickly go below the minimum operating voltage of the gauge and the pack will go into shutdown until the charger is attached. If you trigger CUV slightly higher then the pack could sit for a longer period of time before it goes into shutdown mode.

    Sincerely,

  • Wyatt,

    Thank you!
