UCC28951: Is it possible implement Full bridge configuration on secondary side of UCC28951 with seperate synchronous gate driver?

Hi, as I am designing a 3.3kW PSFB for a 72V battery charger with the following specifications, Vin=380 to 420V, Vout=54 to 90V, Iout max=40A, 3.3kW. As the secondary side voltage stress seen by MOSFET in centre tapped configuration is high so, the overall cost is going high. I am planning to use the full bridge configuration on the secondary side with the UCC24612 gate driver for individual MOSFET, I will not use OUTE,OUTF of UCC28951. I wanted to know whether it will work or not and what will be the effect on the efficiency of the converter.

Hello,

The UCC24612 was designed for LLC and flyback controllers. I would not recommend using it to drive a full bridge on the secondary.

I would recommend using the UCC27714 half bridge driver. https://www.ti.com/product/UCC27714

I agree with you that you will not need to use the out E and F.

What would be the input pwm to the UCC27714 gate driver and what is the effect on the efficiency of the converter?

Hello,

The outputs of the UCC28951 should be used to drive the output H Bridge and the input H Bridge.

The design would require 2 UCC27714 designs on the primary and 2 on UCC27714 drivers on the secondary.

The following link will bring you to EVM using the UCC27714 in a phase shifted full bridge. Please note that it does not have a secondary H Bridge. However, it should give you ideas how to drive it.

Hi Mike,

If I understood right, OUT A, B, C and D of UCC28951 would provide a PWM to the primary side gate driver UCC27714 which will provide a gate signal to primary full-bridge FET and OUT E, F of UCC28951 will provide a PWM to the secondary side gate driver UCC27714 which will provide gate signal to the secondary full- bridge FET. Can you please confirm it once?

Hello,

You should be able to use the a E and F outputs to control the gate drives to the secondary H Bridge.
