bq78PL114 only with 2 temp sensors

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ78PL114, BQWIZARD

Hi

How can I configure the bq78PL114 when I want to use only 2 temp sensors for the cell stack instead of all 8 sensors.

We use the bq78PL114EVM for our first steps.

After calibration procedure of temperature, all values are ok in the case that only 2 sensors are connected on the EVM.

But, if I connect a load and a high current about 2-4Amps is flowing trough the EVM-Board, the temperature of cell3-8 rises above 50°C in a short time,

the two channels with connected sensors (Cell1 and Cell2) shows still the correct temperature.

Can I modify something, hardware or configurations in the Wizzard to solve this problem?

We use the firmware FW4452 because the BMS-Design should have 5mOhm Rsense and I only have the possibility of 1, 3, 10mOhm with the

newer firmware FW5000.

Thanks and regards

Dietmar

  • See app note SLUA537.  The firmware 5000 & 6000 can be configured to only look at 2 sensors using a custom .tmap file.  (bqWizard >> Utilities >> AddOns >> PackConfiguration).

This same .tmap file can be used to set the resistor value to 0.005 ohms too.

    Don't use FW4452.
