Boost LED driver with output up to 55V 20A or 85V 12A

Hi Dmitry,

We don't have one-chip solution LED driver can support such large current like 12A. Will you consider multi-chips solutions?

BTW, the first mockup was implemented using LM3409HV (just because it was easy to buy). Maximum current is rated on 5A. The scheme can't be threat as rock-star in terms of efficiency (around 85% overall) stiil it does work and have an ability to output at 100% MOSFET opening. 

Why can't we just change MOSFET to more powerful (e.g. VIshay SI7469ADP with 19nC gate charge and good Vgs characteristic), select appropriate inductor and change current shunt thus we could go to 16-20A output?

LM3409HV is a buck controller, but your Vin is lower than Vout, so I think you need a Boost converter instead?

And yes, theoretically you can use a more powerful FET and ohter proper components to generate more current.

Hi Patrick,

yes, for mock-up we used two batteries in series to power up LM3409HV (with 36..51V input). After evaluatin solution we decided to chane the concept to boost driver powered from 16..25V input. Is there any sugestins for boost driver?

Yes, in ideal world.

Actually, 55V7A or 85V4A as minimal will be enough (will work in parallell on different COBs)
