UCC25600: Can the frequency at which burst-mode occurs, be lowered?

Part Number: UCC25600
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC256403

The frequency at which burst mode occurs, is 350kHz.

Can this be lowered to 240kHz, as an example?

(Burst mode will only happen at no-load to prevent the output voltage from running away due to leakage energy).

  • Hi Stephan,

Thank you for posting the query on UCC25600. Our LLC product expert will respond to your query later this week after the Christmas holidays.

  • Hi Stephen,

The UCC25600 is always enters the burst mode at 350kHz. This value is not adjustable.

UCC25600 is a voltage mode controller. I would recommend using UCC25640x which is our latest generation LLC controller. In contrast to voltage mode control, this controller operates on charge control, which provides superior performance.

  • Good morning Manikanta,

    Thank you.

Do you know why I like the UCC25600 so much?

Because of its simplicity (and its a 8-pin packaqe) and the fact that I have used it in three products with great success.

Why not bring out a charge control version also in a 8-pin package?

Okay, I will look at the newer device - I just prefer a device that does not have a high-line-voltage start-up.

I want the ic to oscillate even at 0 line-voltage - I see however that there is such a version available in the series you recommend.

  • Hi Stephan,

I am glad UCC25600 working for you.

However, UCC25600 does need external gate drivers whereas UCC25640x does have internal gate drivers which can save lot of PCB space compared to UCC25600.

Since you don't need HV startup, UCC256403 should work for you.

    Regards

    Manikanta P

  • Good day Manikanta,

Yes, I am aware that the UCC25600 needs external gate drivers, which is very simple to add.

I will however look at the UCC256403 and have already downloaded the datasheet to absorb all the information.

    Thank you very much!
