TPS65987D: PD controller supporting PD3.1(EPR support)

Part Number: TPS65987D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65987

Hi TI Team:

Is there a PD controller that supports PD3.1? My design requirement is a 140W(28V/5A) DRP. I can't find a chip that can support PD3.1 on the official website.

  • Hello Peiwu,

Unfortunately we do not have a device available at this time, but our team is working on releasing a PD3.1 EPR controller sometime during 2H23.

Would you also be able to elaborate on the end equipment you are wanting to implement this new technology on?

  • Thanks Adam:

The usage scenario is the same as TPS65983/tps65987. The microcontroller W/R the registers of the PD controller through I2C to configure it as DFP, DRP, and UFP.

Our device can be used as a power provider or a power consumer (EPR 140W),

    1. Charge the Macbook with 140W.

    2. Negotiate with the Apple adapter to make it output 140W.

    ...

And also need support Alternate Mode.

  • Hi Peiwu,

Thank you for the additional information. Unfortunately at this time, we do not have plans of releasing a device that supports both the new PD3.1 spec as well alternate mode negotiation. However, this may change as the year progresses. I would reach out 2Q23 to see the latest on our PD3.1 plans and the devices we plan to release.
