UCC256403: IC gate drive Related issue

Part Number: UCC256403

I am using UCC256403 for LLC half-bridge resonant drive. It is mentioned that it can source or sink 0.6A/1.2A of gate peak current.

I am operating LLC around 400kHz max frequency. I have two major doubts

1. gate drive current mentioned in datasheet doesn't mention any Temperature derating, so can it deliver this at all temperature ranges.

2. If i want to use a pulse transformer based gate drive with this circuit, can i use it? what would be the circuit configuration?

Please give some expert advice

Thanks,

  • Hi,

I have assigned this to an expert, he will respond to this post in the next 1~2 business days.

  • Hi Dilip,

Could you let me know whether 400kHz is resonant frequency or max operating frequency? Also, could you let me know the power rating of the LLC power stage?

    1. gate drive current mentioned in datasheet doesn't mention any Temperature derating, so can it deliver this at all temperature ranges.

The typical value of the gate drive current should be same as the data sheet across the temperature range (-40 to 125C). This is guaranteed by design.

    2. If i want to use a pulse transformer based gate drive with this circuit, can i use it? what would be the circuit configuration?

If you are designing for a higher power, you could couple two low side gate drivers directly instead of pulse transformer to the IC as shown below.
