TPS65910 power up sequence without pushbutton

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3703, TPS65910

Hello,

I am designing the power circuit for an AM3703.  I have a couple of questions/clarifications.

1) The "TPS65910 User Guide for OMAP3 Family of Processors" shows power up sequencing being initiated with a falling edge of the active low pushbutton output triggering input PWRON (Figure 2. Power-Up Sequence for TPS65910).

Is there a way to wire this part so that it initiates the power up sequence just by the ramp up of VBAT?  Our system uses an AM37xx, will not have a pushbutton and it will be running (VBAT) from a 5V supply.

In other words, I would like the power up to be initiated by VBAT ramp up and power down to be initiated by VBAT switching off.

2) The data sheet for the same part shows the power up sequencing initiated by PWRHOLD input rising edge -- not PWRON as in the User Guide (see Figure 3. Boot Mode: BOOT1 = 0, BOOT0 = 1).  Can you tell me why the difference between the 2 documents?

Regards,

Bob

  • 1. The e.g. in the user guide is provided for starting the device from sleep state. VBAT detection is the normal power up event for this part.

    2. PWRHOLD can be used to control the ON and OFF states for the device. PWRON button can control the power ON for the device (by button press) and can shutdown the device with a long press.
