Hello,

I would like to ask you about setting unused pins.
Port3 and Port4 are unused.
Is it okay to mount a capacitor between P and N as a treatment for unused pins of P and N?

This document goes in detail how to configure set of pins for an unused port as well as a reference schematic for a 1-port solution using the TPS2384.

Thank you for your reply.

I am now considering measures against static electricity.
So I ask you again.
(Question 1)
Is it possible to implement measures 1 to 3 below?
1. Capacitor connection between P-N.
2. Connect P and N to 48V through a capacitor.
3. Connect P and N to ground through a capacitor.
(Question 2)
Is it possible to connect P and N directly to ground?
(Connecting N to ground shouldn't be a problem)

Hi Kajii-san,

Technically they should all be possible, however we highly recommend to follow the document for terminating unused pins/ports.

Please also do note TPS2384 is an older device based on 802.3af specifications and is not recommended for new designs. I would recommend TPS23861, which follows 802.3at specifications and is much easier in terms of hardware and software designs.
