UC3854: looking for PFC controller

I started designing with the UC3854, but found that the operating temperature rangetemperature condition of 0-70°C is NG.

From the product specifications, I think that 100°C or more is necessary, but UC1854 is too high cost.

Also, I have experience using the UCC28070 with a single-phase input, but when the rectified voltage of the input is disturbed,

since the operation became unstable, we would like to consider another part number.

I will present the specifications bellow, so please tell me the recommended PFC controller candidates.

Input : AC200V to 240V (three-phase three-wire system)
Output : DC390V 1800W-4000W
Environmental temperature : 0°C to 70°C (The controller rating should be 100°C or higher considering heat generation due to loss.)
Signal : Output OV, Output UV, Output OC (Use an external circuit if there is no function)
Others : Parallel operation 1 to 3 units

Hi,

Thank you for the query on UC3854.

I am not sure on cost but UC1854 is capable of operating upto 125C as per the specifications.

You can probably look at UCC28180 and UCC28019. Both are CCM PFCs and should be capable of being used for high power levels and the temperature range of interest. The following attachment demonstrates a proof of concept using PFCs for 3 phase supply.

Dear Harish,

Thank you for your response.

The UC2854 was added as one of the candidates because it can be used in the range of 0-85C. （Not enough for 100C...)

Can UC2854, UCC28180 and UCC28019 be used with 4000W output?

By the way, in the current concept, we are not thinking about dividing it into three input lines and configuring it with three converters.

As shown in the figure, the configuration consists of one converter.

Hi Shinya-San,

The UCC28180 has been used by many customers upto 5KW.

There are some points you need to pay attention to:

1. the ripple current of input filter is high, you need to design input filter carefully for EMI.

2. size of PFC inductor is very big

3. current sense signal at light load is very low, the THD/PF at light load would not good.

My only concern as highlighted in the document which I attached earlier is with the configuration shown, the input current of each phase can be discontinuous for 3 phase application. Hence we proposed using standlone pfc for each phase.

I understand very well. Thank you for the detailed explanation.

But, UCC28180 is not likely to be available soon, so I am unable to build and evaluate prototypes.

Currently in stock and expected availability are UC2854 and UCC28019.

I would like to proceed with the design with either of these.

Please let me know if you have any concerns.

UCC28019 is a fixed frequency 65khz, so UC2854 might be better for flexibility of design.
