LM3488Q-Q1: Formula

Part Number: LM3488Q-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM3488, LM3478

Hi,

Good Day.

I can't find the meaning of the voltage "Vo" in the datasheet of the LM3488.

It occurs in equations 19, 20, and 24.

To denote it as output voltage does not make too much sense, because then the Rsen resistor could have a negative value.

Maybe it is Vout after all, but the formulas have a typo.

For example: instead of "Vout - 2*Vin" it could mean "Vout - 0.5*Vin" which would guarantee a meaningful result.

Please advise. Thank you very much.

Best Regards,

Ray Vincent

  • Hi Ray,

Thank you for using E2E forums, yes the Vo in those equations is output voltage and it does not seem to be a typo as it is the same equation in LM3478 device which is similar device. equation 19 and 20 both are inequality equations, but equation 24 as you can see since it is Boost design the Vo will always be larger than Vin so Rsen will not be negative value.

    Hope this answers your question.

  • Hi Haroon,

    Good Day.

    Just for clarification:
It is not a problem if for these inequality equation the calculated resistance becomes negative? So it is only about proofing that it is not too big?

  • Hi Ray,

Thank you, yes indeed. The most important equation would be the equality equations and the equations that you pointed out before are accurate as they are exactly the same in other similar devices.
