BQ40Z80: RE: BMS circuit.

Part Number: BQ40Z80
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ77905, BQ79616-Q1

Hello,

We are looking for the BMS chip for our custom battery pack.

Earlier i found the BQ7961-Q1 which have pretty much all the features which we looking at now i also found the BQ40Z80 which mentioned as fuel gauge IC but it almost have all the features which BQ7961-Q1

I didn't understand the difference between these 2 chips. Also BQ77905 is can use as a battery protector chip so can we use that with BQ40Z80 chip for overvoltage or under voltage protection and cutoff.

Also  BQ40Z80 have the external Mosfet for protection so do we need to use the BQ77905 of battery cutoff application?

Please help us with this it very critical for us.

Regards,

Hrishikesh.

  • Hello Hrishikesh,

The BQ79616-Q1 is a battery monitor so it will not provide and gauging estimation like SOC, SOH, Remain Capacity, etc. The BQ40Z80 can provide the gauging side with the Impedance Track algorithm.

The BQ40Z80 does have integrated high side FETs which can disable charge or discharge depending on many different conditions and are configurable in the firmware.

    Sincerely,

    Wyatt Keller
