Hi,

Good Day.

Would like to know if the device can handle a 4A surge current at start-up from a device that it is feeding.

I have a device that has a 4A in rush current requirement and I would like to know if the TPS84621 can feed the device ok.

In rush current is a surge current that occurs when a device is forts turned on/powered up.

Please advise. Thank you very much.

Hi Ray,

It is possible to have TPS84621 feeding onto a 4A inrush current device, however you would have to have TPS84621's output fully regulated before the inrush current device is power up to prevent any startup issues, also it would have to take into account the inrush waveform and slew rate.

The inrush current could be treated similar to a 4A load transient and therefore simulated with TPS84621 Pspice model (https://www.ti.com/lit/zip/slvm558) also found under simulation tools https://www.ti.com/product/TPS84621#design-tools-simulation.
