BQ27Z746: HW Wake Pin

Part Number: BQ27Z746
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ40Z50, BQ27Z561

Hello,

My customer is looking for gauges that can be woken up using a HW using a pin on the gauge. I see that the BQ27Z746 has the /ENAB pin. Is that the intention of this pin? What other devices in our portfolio can be used this way?

The reason they want this is that there device can be used very infrequently and they are looking to optimize current in a similar to shelf mode but it would enter this after each use. I think the BQ27Z746 is the lowest IQ guage for single cell gauging but was curious what else I should make sure they consider.

Thanks,

John

  • /ENAB is intended to control a super low power state (ship mode). There are other gauges like the bq27z561 (single cell) that have a similar pin (CE) or bq40z50 (multi cell) that can re-purpose some pins (/PRES -> /SHUTDN) for similar functionality.

It's not intended to be used regularly as it will interfere with gauging when the gauge loses cell state. It has to re-acquire cell state every time it's enabled and that must be done with care, ideally a fully relaxed cell without current flowing (which is often not practical).

  • Thanks Dominik! Waiting for a reply from the engineer on if there is any follow up questions.
