TPS73801-SEP: Parallel operation

Part Number: TPS73801-SEP
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS73801, TPS7A57, TPS7A47

Can two TPS73801-SEP LDOs be connected in parallel to increase output current?

I noticed there is a new app note covering paralleling LDOs with ballast resistors: https://www.ti.com/lit/wp/sbva093/sbva093.pdf This app note uses TPS7A47 and TPS7A57 as examples and for the new Excel calculator. I assume these equations in the App Note can be used for the TPS73801-SEP. New calculator tool does not include the TPS73801 as an option.

  • Mark,

Yes two can be connected in parallel.

It is not part of the recently released LDO parallel calculator.  This calculator was developed by the commercial team.   I will discuss with them on the possibility of including our space power LDOs in the calculator in the future.

There may be many references out there with respect to using ballast resistors with load sharing.

There is one that was created with respect to DC-DC converters.  However, the concepts fully apply to an LDO.
