LMG3411EVM-029: replacing SN6505B in the half bridge design

Part Number: LMG3411EVM-029
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SN6505B, SN6501, UCC25800

Hello, I have successfully designed some half bridge boards based on LMG3411EVM-029 design.

However, now I need to produce more replicas of the same board but the SN6505B, which is used to drive the transformer for the isolated 12V, is unavailable.

My question is if it can be replaced by SN6501, which has lower current and no soft start, or any other component, even if it is no pin to pin compatible.

Should have any other suggestion for alternatives, it would be appreciated.

thank you

  • HI Atrac,

Have you considered using UCC25800? It is what we have replaced the SN6505B bias supply with on some of our newer reference designs and EVMs. Additionally, it is what we are now recommending to customers for new designs for its simplicity. It serves the exact same function as SN6505B transformer driver and can support two isolated outputs. Feel free to take a look at PMP23209 and PMP23216 which show an easy way to implement this bias supply. Let me know if this helps.

    Best Regards,

    John
