BQ40Z80: Regarding battery management scheme

Dear Sir/ma'am,

We are developing complete battery monitoring and charging system using the BQ40z80 chip and couple of other chips.

But i had doubt with this as Bq40z80 has the SMBUS port for communication so can use that SMBUS port with the controller i2c port ?

is their any kind of issue with this please have look and let me know. I have attached my scheme below for your review.

Hello Hrishikesh,

I'm not sure of the details of the MCU you are using, you will need to do the comparisons to see if they are compatible or not. SMBus is more strict and has more defined packet structure. Many times MCUs have SMBus drivers.

Could you suggest us the battery charging chip from TI portfolio which can charge 6s Li-ion battery pack and have the SMBUS port for communication to get & set the charging profile & status of the battery.

Hello Hrishikesh,

I am only an expert in TI's battery gauge products, I would recommend you make a separate E2E post linking one of the chargers you think could work, outline your specification requirements in the most and they should be able to help you decide on the best charger.
