LMG5200: LMG5200 circuit review and request review for suitability

Part Number: LMG5200

Hi, TI support team

The client company is reviewing the application of the LMG5200 to develop a beauty device.

- 7MHz HIFU (High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound) Transducer

- Operating Power of HIFU:16~20V, 2A

The circuit is composed of two cases, but please review whether there is a part that can be a problem in each circuit.

When comparing the two circuits, we plan to adopt the most suitable circuit, so if there is any part that could be a problem, please tell us without hesitation or subtraction.

Thanks.

Regards,

MJ

  • Hi MJ,

The LMG5200 can work in either case.

My recommendation would be to use circuit 1. Assuming correctly tuned components, it can soft switch & only requires one LMG5200. The reactive power from the LC will cause higher RMS current through the LMG5200, but I don't think that will cause substantial issue, and soft switching is well worth the added RMS current, especially at 7MHz.

    Thanks,

    Travis

  • HI MJ,

I am not an expert in ultrasound, but I did think of one potential improvement to circuit 1. You might consider adding a high pass filter with a very low corner frequency to the output. This will remove the 8V DC bias that the output of circuit 1 would otherwise have.

If the DC bias is not a problem for your transducer, then there's no need for the additional output filter.

    Thanks,

    Travis
