BQ28Z610-R1: If cell temp is not accurate,what will happen?

If temperature is incorrect, then the algorithm will still compute remaining capacity based on temperature that is read. Depending on the chemistry, the error could be significant. At low temperature this will result in over reporting of remaining capacity and at high temperature it will be under reported.

If you know the correct temperature, then some other products like bq40z50 allow writing the temperature to the gauge but i do not see that in bq28z610

Sorry for the confusion, I just checked and the feature is not available on bq40z50. It is only available on some single cell gauges.

Multi-cell gauges typically support and use multiple temperature sensors and therefore a single register write is not sufficient to set temperature.

You could place the SMD sensor on the side of PCB that contacts the cells to work around the issue.
