Hi Tom,

The general estimation for Power dissipation is Pdiss = (VIN - VOUT) * (Iload + Ibias(typ))

Ibias(typ) = 0.0038A = 3.8mA for the 05 device.

Hi John,

Absolute Maximum Ratings VI=30V

VOUT=5V

Iload=100mA

Pdiss = (30-5) * (100 + 3.8)=2595mW

So the Absolute Maximum Ratings is 2595mW, is it correct?

Hi Tom,

In theory yes that is the maximum power dissipation, however at ~2.6W of power you may be thermally limited depending upon ambient temperature, package choice, and board design.
